Airport on Zakynthos is located in the south of the island, only 1 km from the popular resort of Laganas and 6 km from the islands capital town.
Zakynthos airport is the fifth busiest in Greece with many visitors passing through this airport every year.In 2005 a new arrivals area was opened, which has greatly improved the airport and has made the process of passengers collecting their luggage much quicker. A new departures area is also being built and it will open in 2007, but until it is finished departures can feel crowded, particularly if many flights are leaving close together. Night flights are banned on Zakynthos, so as not to disturb the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles which nest their eggs on the beaches of Zakynthos.
Through the night flights being banned, it means that the hours for planes to arrive and depart are severely restricted; so often planes land in waves and this also plays a part in the congestion sometimes experienced. Both the arrivals and departures areas are fully air- conditioned and the departures area has a snack bar and duty free shop.
Here are the transfer times to the main resorts on Zakynthos:
Alykes & Alykanas: 30 minutes
Argassi: 15 minutes
Laganas: 5 minutes
Tsilivi: 20 minutes
