    The city of Rethimno is the capital of the province of Rethimno and has been built on the north coast of Crete where there is the Cretan Sea .The population of the town of Rethimno is around 23.126 inhabitants .Furtermore ,there are many historical and cultural sightseeings in Rethimno.Some of them are :the Fortezza fortress built in the 15th century ,the Logia ,the most important architectural reminder of the Venetian occupation ,the Remondi Fountain ,built in 1692 an architectural and sculptural ornate and the Saint Franciscus church ,a catholic monastery of the Fransiscan order .Its natural beauty and its traditional character make Rethimno a quaint and attractive destination for unforgettable holidays .The old city is the monumental museum .All these elements attract the visitor .The Fortezza castle gives its own physiognomhy .The Byzantine and Venetian churches near the minarets and Tourkish springs the old houses with kiosks ,the old Ianes and the modern streets of the new city ,all together compound a mosaic which testimony the history of the city .In the last 25 years ,Rethimno has seen a significant growth ,in economy by the development of tourism and in culture by the operation of the university .
